Discover Pleo

Every Pleo is autonomous. Yes, each one begins life as a newly-hatched baby Camarasaurus, but that's where predictability ends and individuality begins. Like any creature, Pleo feels hunger and fatigue - offset by powerful urges to explore and be nurtured. He'll graze, nap and toddle about on his own -when he feels like it! Pleo dinosaur can change his mind and his mood, just as you do. Discover Pleo's emotions.

Emotions Awareness Evolution Interaction

Interaction:

Exploring

Have you fully discovered the many ways Pleo reacts, responds and interacts? Once he's up on all fours, there's so much to do in the world!

Point Pleo towards something interesting, like a soda can, your dog or your brother. Touch and hold the upper part of both Pleo's front legs for about three seconds. He'll shuffle off to explore!

Staying out of trouble

Place Pleo about six inches away from the edge of a table (not a clear or glass topped one) and try to get him to walk forward. If he is paying attention, Pleo will know he is nearing the edge of the table.

What does Pleo do? How does he respond?

Laying down

Does Pleo seem sleepy? Or is he all wound up, while you need some time off? See if you can get him to nap by holding his back for ten seconds...with a "calm down" touch.

See what happens. Does he respond to sounds while laying down? To touch? What wakes him up again?

Cuddling

Is your rascally baby dinosaur too excited? Try holding him upright against your chest with his head on your shoulder...just like you'd cuddle a human baby, while petting him along the spine.

Shaking "hands"

Can you get Pleo to offer his paw for you to shake? Try activating a sensor on one of his legs.

Playing around

Try placing Pleo's leaf in his mouth to see what mood he's in. If he's hungry, he'll chomp the leaf. If he's not, he may get playful instead!

In fact, sometimes Pleo calls out for play! This is a sure sign that he's ready for a game of tug-of-war! Place his leaf in his mouth and pull back a bit - but don't yank it! Pleo is only a baby!

Sitting

Pleo knows how to sit up on his little dino haunches, putting him in prime position for playing with that leaf he loves so much!

To help Pleo sit down, try holding his chin and rear at the same time. He'll pull his front and back feet together. Give him a nudge back; don't forget to help him up when you want to keep playing. Note: Baby dinos that have been updated to LifeOS 1.1 are awfully cute and playful when they're sitting...

Is Pleo ticklish?

Only one way to find out! Flip him onto his back and try quickly tapping his foot pads alternately to see if he responds!

Are you a meanie?

Firmly grab Pleo by the tail so he is hanging upside down. Wait a few seconds and see if Pleo decides to let you know how he's feeling! It may take him a little while to recover (and forgive you!) once you set him back down again.

Keep in mind that Pleo's personality may be transformed by prolonged abuse...

Balancing act

Pleo can balance on two legs! Can you figure out how to get him to attempt this feat? Need a hint? Try getting him to lift two legs at the same time.

Singing

Can you inspire Pleo's operatic side? Beware: baby dino singing may sound like howling or squealing to you! Pleo may get attached to tunes that you seem to enjoy and use them to call out for attention later...if he's been updated to LifeOS 1.1.

Hint: To get Pleo to croon a little tune, try giving his chin some extra special attention.

Pleo can hear you

Pleo's just a juvenile, trying hard to figure out what in his environment is important for him to pay attention to. Should he focus on avoiding a table edge or listen to you calling him?

Pleo hears best in a quiet room when you talk to him from the left or the right from not too far away. Steady sound gets his attention: Pleo will ignore short bursts of sound like claps or short "Pleo" calls - otherwise his head would be spinning all the time! Just keep on talking!

Making friends

Got two Pleos? Or find a friend through the community? See what happens when two little dinos get together!

Pleo the watchdog

Everyone can use a trusty watchdog around the house (or office) - how about a watch-dino? There is a way to get Pleo to enter a watchful mode, looking out for possible intruders and alerting you with a growl or a bark, although it does involve some contortions - you may need help from a friend!

How to do it: Touch Pleo's front left leg, back left leg, back right leg, and back/shoulder sensor at the same time. To get Pleo back to his regular self: touch his chin sensor.

Hand contortions turning you into a pretzel? Community members Pleo_Joe, Samantha and others have made awesome instructional videos. Click here for How-To videos and tips!

What else can Pleo do?

The list of tricks Pleo can learn is as long as your imagination!

Everyone: From time to time, UGOBE will release downloads for Pleo that add new behaviors to his repertoire. Just pop in an SD card with the download for some new fun!

Moderately tech-savvy owners: Make your own "script" for Pleo using 3rd party tools that let you design sounds and movements for Pleo. MySkit and YAPT are examples of tools developed by independent robotics enthusiasts for use with Pleo.

High-flying developers: Advanced developers will enjoy working with UGOBE's PDK (Pleo Developers Kit) when it is released later this year to create incredible new features and behaviors that take advantage of Pleo's internal workings. Watch the Pleoworld community for news.
